Mike has been a physical therapist for 18 years. Mike graduated form the University of South Dakota with a Bachelors degree in Biology. He then attended the University of Iowa and received his Masters in Physical Therapy. Mike began his career as a physical therapist in York, NE. His duties included management of inpatient therapy, as well as working in the outpatient clinic. Soon after working in York, Mike was promoted to clinic director of Fremont Physical Therapy, an outpatient and sports physical therapy clinic in Fremont, NE. Mike built the clinic from the ground up by hiring his own staff, developing referral sources, and acquiring insurance contracts. In Onawa Iowa, Mike then became the Rehab Director for Burgess Health Center for 6 years. His duties there included: management of the rehab team, inpatient and outpatient therapy, and home health therapies. He also volunteered in sports injury and game coverage for the local high school. Mike had the opportunity to open his own outpatient/sports rehab clinic in Elkhorn, NE in July of 2004. The clinic has grown consistently in staff and volume over the past three and a half years. In April of 2007, Stodden Physical Therapy expanded and opened a satellite physical therapy clinic in Gretna, NE. Then in 2009 Mike opened a new state of the art clinic in Elkhorn.
Mike has a varied array of experience ranging from orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, sports testing, post operative care, brace fitting, home exercise plans and development, throwing evaluations, ergonomics, work injuries, wound care and a certified dry needle practitioner. Mike also is a clinic instructor for Physical Therapy Programs of Creighton and the University of Iowa, and Physical Therapy Assistant programs of Clarkson and Norfolk Community College. Mike is very enthusiastic about the field of physical therapy. He enjoys working with patients to help them get back to their normal life whether that is athletics, work, or just everyday life.
Mike has 2 children, Alex and Sydney. He enjoys spending time with them very much. Mike is a sports enthusiast which includes basketball, football, and golfing. Other interests for Mike include music performance, travel, and family time.
Shelley graduated from Northeast Community College in 1995 where she received her Physical Therapist Assistant degree. She started her career at the Norfolk Nursing Center right after graduation until June of 1996. She then went to work for Faith Regional Health Services where she did outpatient rehab for 5 years with occasional home health and nursing home visits. She then moved to acute care until July of 2006. Her family moved to Omaha in July of 2006 where she started working for Alegent Health at Bergan Mercy. While there she did outpatient orthopedic, sports and geriatric rehab until February of 2009 when she joined the Stodden Physical Therapy family. She is married to Jeremy VanAckeren who is the Athletic Director for Papillion South High School. Their children are Quintin, Macey, and Jayda. Shelley enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Rachel graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2007 with a doctorate in physical therapy. Prior to that, she attended Doane College where she graduated in 2004 with a Bachelors in Physical Education with an Athletic Training emphasis. She became a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in December 2004. Rachel started her career at the Alegent Health in June 2007. There, she worked with outpatient orthopedics, developing her manual therapy skills. She also participated in mentoring physical therapy students during clinical experiences. She organized a 5K race for 4 years, raising money for community organizations including Heart Ministry Center, United Way and Omaha Parks Foundation. She served on various committees including the Quality Committee Employee Relations Council and co-lead a Total Knee Rehabilitation project standardizing a rehab protocol to most efficiently maximize function. After 6 years with Alegent Creighton Health, she joined Stodden Physical Therapy in June 2013. Rachel is married to her husband, Shane who is an insurance producer for UNICO Group, Inc. She has 2 children, Jaxon and Breeley. She enjoys exercising, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
Adam is a native of Cozad, NE where he grew up on his family farm. Adam received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in exercise science and then moved on to graduate work at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Omaha studying exercise physiology and biomechanics. He then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center earning his doctorate in Physical Therapy. Adam has been practicing in outpatient orthopedics for eight years with his focus on treating athletes of all ages. Adam is certified tai chi instructor, SFMA certified, certified personal trainer through the American College of sports, and certified dry needle practitioner.
Amy grew up on a farm near Carroll, IA. She graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 2002 where she was a multisport athlete, participating in basketball and volleyball. It was during this time that she discovered her passion for sports medicine after rehabbing a few minor sports related injuries.
She continued her education and basketball career at Creighton University. During her time there, she was a part of the 2004 WNIT Championship team and broke the school record for career blocked shots. She finished her undergraduate studies in 2006 with an Exercise Science degree.
Amy received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Creighton University in 2009. She has had an opportunity throughout her career to treat a multitude of orthopedic injuries throughout the lifespan. She loves building relationships with patients and helping them achieve their individualized goals.
Amy and her husband Zach welcomed a daughter, Oakley, to their family in February 2019. In her free time, Amy enjoys spending time with her family and two goldendoodles, Tucker and Paisley. You will also find her cheering on the Creighton Bluejays and Iowa Hawkeyes.
We are happy to introduce to you our newest staff physical therapist, Vicki Nielsen, DPT. Vicki grew up involved in multiple sports including softball, basketball, and track. She played softball throughout her summers growing up playing all around the Midwest where she developed her passion for the game. Vicki was a utility player, mainly pitching, catching, or playing short stop through high school. She suffered an ACL injury playing basketball her senior year and came to Stodden Physical Therapy for rehab. She continued her athletic career playing Division II softball at Wayne State College where she played second base, left field, and designated hitter. After her collegiate career she went on to teach pitching and hitting lessons and volunteered at various softball camps. We are excited to have her on our staff to share her knowledge and utilize her skills. Her history of being a player and coach will benefit her patients when instructing strengthening and sport specific drills. She is also certified in dry needling which will enhance the athlete’s rehab potential to get back into the game as soon as possible.
Rita is a certified hand therapist and Occupational Therapist specializing in hand therapy. She received a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Towson University in Towson, Maryland. Rita was among the first occupational therapist in the nation to become a certified Hand Therapist and has over 30 years of experience treating hand and upper extremity injuries. Her special interests include working with hand and arm trauma, and complex regional pain syndrome or CRPS. Rita has extensive training in static and dynamic splinting and fracture bracing. Her other interests include cooking, fitness, and nutrition.
RJ grew up outside of Fort Calhoun, NE where he would be found playing any sport that was in season. He then moved to Oakland, NE where he was a three-sport athletein high school, competing in basketball, football, and golf. During his Junior basketball season, he was a patient at Stodden Physical Therapy in Elkhorn while recovering from a hamstring injury. RJ continued his education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He spent his free time attending every Husker football and basketball game, volunteering at Bryan hospital, and coaching a local 7th grade boys basketball team. RJ completed Physical Therapy school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. During his last year of PT school, he was able to complete a clinical rotation at our Elkhorn location. RJ enjoys watching and playing sports, andspending time with his family, friends, and his dog Brooks.
